The Benevolence Committee of the Hamilton District ensures that this principle of care and support continues to thrive across our Lodges—North and South—working together as one Masonic family.
Although our District functions in two parts to share responsibilities, we operate with one spirit and one purpose: to extend the hand of relief to those who need it most. The Benevolence Committee is where that purpose takes shape, translating words into action and ideals into impact.

The Committee’s role is to coordinate, guide, and support acts of benevolence throughout the District. When a Brother or his family faces hardship—whether through illness, loss of employment, or other personal challenges—the Committee helps Lodges respond promptly, respectfully, and effectively.
We serve as a bridge between the Lodges and the District, ensuring that resources, information, and support reach those who need them in a timely and confidential manner. Every situation is handled with discretion and compassion, maintaining the dignity of those we assist.
One District, One Compassionate Effort
Our structure may divide responsibilities between North and South, but our compassion knows no boundaries. Both areas work in harmony to ensure that all members of the Hamilton Masonic family have access to assistance when needed. The Committee promotes cooperation between Lodges, encouraging them to communicate and share resources so that help is never delayed by geography or circumstance.
This shared approach allows us to balance the workload while maintaining a unified vision—one of kindness, relief, and brotherly love in action.
How We Help
The Benevolence Committee works quietly behind the scenes, often in partnership with Lodge Almoners and Worshipful Masters. We assist in assessing needs, coordinating available support, and when necessary, connecting with the Grand Lodge Benevolence Committee for additional guidance or funding.
Support can take many forms: financial assistance, grocery cards, transportation, or simply a listening ear and a helping hand. Often, what makes the greatest difference is not the material aid itself, but the reassurance that one’s Brothers care—that no Mason stands alone in times of difficulty.
Encouraging a Culture of Care
While our Committee provides structure and oversight, true benevolence begins within each Lodge. We encourage Worshipful Masters, Wardens, and members to remain attentive to one another’s well-being. Sometimes a small gesture—a phone call, a visit, or a quiet conversation—can make an immeasurable difference in someone’s life.
We also help Lodges learn how to identify when a Brother may need support and how to approach the subject gently and respectfully. The goal is to create an atmosphere where asking for or offering help feels natural—a reflection of genuine brotherly care.
Beyond the Lodge Room
The Benevolence Committee’s work also extends to the community. Through charitable donations, volunteer efforts, and partnerships with local organizations, the Hamilton District supports broader causes that align with our Masonic values.
