Obituary Notice

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Wood on October 12, 2025, in Hamilton, Ontario, at the age of 92.

Born on August 9, 1933, in London, England, to James and Bessie Wood, James lived a full and meaningful life grounded in love, family, and service. In 1957, he married the love of his life, June, after they met at a dance hall in London. That same year, they emigrated to Canada, beginning a new chapter together that would span 68 devoted years of marriage.
James was a proud and loving father to Roderick (Margot), Allister (Sue), and Cameron. He was a cherished grandfather to Alexander, Victoria, Angus (Brooke), and Virginia (Evan), and a beloved great-grandfather to Paisley, Paige, Scarlett, and Lucy. His warmth and wisdom will also be deeply missed by extended family in Britain and Australia.

James dedicated 26 years of his working life as Maintenance Supervisor at McMaster University, where his steady hand and strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across campus.

He was an active and proud member of Buchanan Lodge No. 550 of the Masonic Order, the Veteran’s Service League, the Hamilton Tartan Social Club and of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 58, where he found fellowship and purpose in community service.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at L.G. Wallace Funeral Home, 151 Ottawa Street North, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate a life well lived. Please feel free to leave fond memories and messages of condolence in the virtual guestbook below.

James leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, devotion to family, and a life rooted in integrity. He will be remembered always with love and gratitude.
